Kettlebell Practice – Sunday

Tags: ,

Every once in a while as a mom (or dad) you get a really cool gift from your child.  It’s usually something they didn’t even realize would be special to you.  This morning my son (age 9) watched me do my workout.  I noticed he was paying close attention, and he even got up and followed along with me for a bit, using a small weighted ball in his hand.  I was thrilled with just that.

Later, while I chugged  a protein shake, I noticed he was pouring over a drawing at the kitchen table.  Several minutes later he presented me with this:

He mistakenly called a clean a snatch throughout, and the time was really more like 20 minutes, but otherwise, a pretty accurate description of what the practice looked like.   :-)

  1. things like these, you just remember forever. special indeed.

  10. It’s Monday morning and I’m sitting at my desk, and I’m on my own, and the skies outside are bright blue and sunny, all reasons to make me grumpy and miserable, but I’m actually sitting here with a grin on my face as wide as my ears and the tiniest bit of moisture in my eyes after reading that. Thanks for posting it, Sarah, you’ll make the day better for a lot of people with that :)

  11. This is the first time I’ve had no interest in your workout……

Excellent drawings and i like the ‘over head thingy’, much prefer that to the snatch, going to use that from now on.
Some times ones kiddos are the hardest task masters

Oh yeah…. work out good too :D

  12. Just when you think they aren’t paying attention, they truly are. That’s awesome! :)

  13. I absolutely love it!!! A definite keeper picture. My daughter (8 y/o) gave me one of her notebooks for my workout journal. It’s green with butterflies and says “Dad’s gym work out note book”. I proudly bring it to the gym every day.

  16. Thanks, Fred. LOL – actually he did a pretty good job! I am about 5′ 6″ and am strangely proportioned with long torso and shortish legs.

  23. That means so much, Dave! And I let my son know your thoughts. He had a rough morning today, too. When we talked about how people “all around the world” liked his drawing, it made things better. Thank you!! :-)

  24. Comrade Sarah – LOL. I can picture you writing programs to include: 10 Overhead Thingies – 5R, 5L. etc. :-)

Yeah, it’s a different kind of success when it gets through to the kiddos.

  27. What a treasure! I love the “I told her not to hurt herself” at the end. So sweet. But how could your kids be anything BUT sweet, with you for a mom?
