Jimmy,
That's very true. It really helps to have a goal or an event to train for. All of a sudden you get a conscience about potentially skipping a workout.
The other point you made is right on as well. A "workout buddy" is a huge motivator. If you are supposed to meet your friend at the gym or at the corner for a run, you are so much more likely to get yourself there.
Thanks for the input!

A lot of my friends tell me they would workout but they can't find the motivation. I was lucky enough to get into fitness because of my roommate freshmen year who got me into weight lifting. I wouldn't of been able to workout 4 days a week if he wouldn't force me to go to the gym.

I think a great way to motivate yourself is to get involved with something that will physically test you. For me, getting into the cage and fighting for the first time. Not wanting to lose is such a huge motivator, it gets me through a week of grueling 6 day workouts. Going to the gym to get "in shape" I feel isn't enough motivation. Going to gym so you finish a triathlon or 5k is such a better motivator.

Sarah, you're doing a great job motivating just by blogging.

Josh, tell your wife she can do it! I only recently discovered kettlebells myself, and I'm 46. They're not just for youngsters, they're for anyone of ANY age who who's willing to put some effort into learning good technique.

Keep fighting the good fight. "Reading + TGU = AWESOME" are words to live by!!!

You're welcome, Josh. Thanks for making your story available to us. You are doing something important.

And tell your wife to forget what the calendar says. At 40 (something) I'm stronger and wiser than at any other time in my life. I like that combination! :-)

Sarah, thanks for the kind words. My wife is about to turn 40 and you are going to be her hero. I've got her hemming and hawing about doing the program minimum right now--you'll push her over the edge, I bet.

You're doing something important here on your blog. We are no longer required to test ourselves physically in most of our lives, so we have to choose to do it. And most of us don't, which deprives us of a lot of things.

Everyone do what Sarah says!
